On the occasion of International Women’s Day, AmCham Turkey/ABFT and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) jointly organized a breakfast conference entitled “Breaking Stereotypes: Paving the Way to Equal” on March 8th at Hilton Istanbul Bosphorus.
The conference kicked off with opening remarks from AmCham Turkey/ABFT Executive Director and EBRD’s Deputy Country Director for Turkey. Right after the opening remarks, AmCham Turkey/Board Member & Korn Ferry Managing Director Nilgün Langenberg informed attendees on AmCham’s ‘Women Leadership Network’ program and invited AmCham’s ‘Executive Mentorship Program’ attendees to stage who displayed best practices in the mentoring area.
The conference continued with a panel session on breaking gender-related stereotypes in the business world, with the attendance of Mustafa Hilmi Çolakoğlu, Undersecretary of Ministry of National Education, Ihsan Necipoglu, CEO of Dow, Ayşem Sargın, Country Executive of Boeing Turkey and Ahu Yazıcı, General Manager of Bristol Myers Squibb. The event which was attended by more than 80 people focused on discussions around increasing women’s labour force participation in male-dominated industries and occupations which employ fewer women and are particularly vulnerable to masculine stereotypes.
